According to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, holidays in Switzerland will be possible this summer. Mountain bike resorts Davos Klosters and Flims Laax in Switzerland are slowly reopening with social distancing and special hygiene measures in place. Some shops have already been allowed to reopen. Bike shops, bars, restaurants and public transport can resume operations on May 11th. A decision as to whether cable cars can operate will be taken on 8th June. In France, resorts are still closed until further notice.
Bike hotel updates
Since the start of the outbreak most bike hotels have closed but are keeping in touch with guests via social media. With resorts in Switzerland starting to open up, hotels in Davos Klosters and Flims Laax are offering favorable booking terms. For example Peaks Place and rocksresort Laax are offering free cancellation, reserve now pay later at no extra cost. Hotels in Davos like the Hard Rock or Edelweiss are also offering free cancellation, reserve now pay later across all of their rooms.
MTB event updates
The Swiss Epic five day stage race from Laax to Davos is still scheduled to go ahead in August with a confirmation promised before the end of June. Whilst the Worldcup in Lenzerheide has been postponed, UCI Downhill and XCO Les Gets remain scheduled for September. Also expected to take place in August, the Pass’Portes du Soleil race and bike show in Les Gets.
Whilst European countries are working on the progressive lifting of confinement measures, the borders of France and Switzerland are still closed. However discussions around the restoration of transport services, air connectivity and the free movement of people are now underway.
