TI 6000 – Big Mountain Challenge

TI 6000 is a fully supported, three day, all mountain endurance challenge divided into seven stages. Uphill sections are timed. The challenge is designed for small groups of up to eight participants and lasts 5 in total including an introduction and recovery day. See below for details.

STAGES

Each stage begins with a safety briefing and a look at the route ahead. Between stages we break for lunch either in a hut or catered en route. A safety officer is present throughout each stage. Ride with the officer, ride with your mates or go it alone, this is your challenge.

DAY 1

PROLOGUE

On your first day we setup your bike, adjusting it to fit your individual biometrics. We demo your survival pack, navigation equipment and tracking device. Then we head out for an extensive test ride, making sure you are fully dialed and ready for Day 2.

DAY 2

STAGE 1

Starting off gently we approach the first of 5 summits. Lots of nice single track testing your stability on loose terrain. Some steep downhill sections.

STAGE 2

A tough stage with a few steep hike-your-bike sections. This stage introduces more technical terrain, including some rooty downhill sections.

DAY 3

STAGE 3

A rewarding stage, starting with a gentle flow through loamy single track forests, gradually building to a 6km uphill battle to the summit.

STAGE 4

The longest stage, a seemingly endless descent, this section tests both your strength and endurance. High levels of exposure on this section demand maximum concentration.

DAY 4

STAGE 5

The last day warms up softly with a 10km climb followed by a technical descent. High exposure on the downhill section (points exceeding 90%) will once again test your nerves and downhill capability.  

STAGE 6

Kicking off after lunch with the toughest climb yet. Hiking your bike is no longer an option. Riding up over rough scrubland and rocky terrain, the trail eases off into forested single track.

STAGE 7

The challenge ends with a short sharp downhill descent over rocky terrain. This final test of technical ability will take everything you’ve got.

Please note: the route is a living thing, being influenced by multiple factors such as changing weather conditions, riding abilities, trail damage, to name a few. Pure MTB constantly assess these factors and make changes if necessary to manage the risks.

PREPARATION

Reaching your TI 6000 goal means preparation, practising your technique, building strength and endurance through a combination of weight lifting, cardio, interval training and diet. Check our Facebook page for training plans and top tips.

IS IT FOR ME?

Pure MTB have selected trails that test your skills and push your abilities. Not just technical ones, you will need peak physical and mental condition to attempt this challenge.

FITNESS LEVEL

High

This means you can sustain an elevated heart rate for periods up to 4 hours non-stop. You must also be able to hike your bike over rocks, handle exposure (altitudes up to 2,500m) and endure steep uphill sections. Sections can always be walked.  

SKILL LEVEL

Intermediate to Advanced

In bike park terms, you’re fine riding the reds and able to tackle the blacks. You can handle dry and loose terrain, different types of track – narrow, bendy, single track, rooty sections, rocks and small drops.

RECOVERY DAY

On your last day, enjoy some well deserved R&R with an extra night’s accommodation, including breakfast. Freeride endless trails, check out the region, try another activity and get in some pizza!

Ticino is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts with lots on offer such as rock climbing, canyoning, SUP or swimming in pristine rivers and lakes. However you like to chill, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Our alpine lodge offers four comfortable bunk beds and one double bed. We accommodate solo riders, couples and small groups of up to eight. Prices are based on shared lodgings and meals prepared at the lodge.

PAYMENT

We accept most forms of electronic payment including credit cards. For advance bookings made more than 30 days before the start date of the challenge, we request a non-refundable 25% deposit to register your participation. Payment of the balance is required no later than 30 days prior to the start date of the challenge.

LAST MINUTE BOOKINGS

For Last Minute bookings made less than 30 days prior to the start date of the challenge payment is required in full. Please see our Terms and Conditions for details.

DATES

Challenge stays start on Sunday evening and end Saturday morning. Friday is your Recovery Day. For additional dates, please contact us. Bike camps are also run throughout the season.

FAQ

Just click on the Sign Up button at the top of our website. You will be asked to pay a non-refundable 25% deposit. Once arrangements have been confirmed, a final confirmation email will be issued on receipt of the outstanding balance, no later than 30 days before the start date. If for any reason we are unable to confirm your booking, your deposit and any installments paid to us will be refunded in full. For last minute bookings, please contact us directly.

Ride together as a group, in pairs or individually, it’s your challenge. If you’d like to arrange a specific format, please contact us.

Riding the trail or even completing a ride alone can be a challenge in itself. Being timed is entirely optional. If you are unsure, you can also ride with the safety officer.

We can accommodate larger groups, subject to availability. Please contact us with your dates, number of participants and any further requirements.

Please contact us and we will do our best to source a private room locally, subject to availability.

We make sure that everyone eats well, guaranteed. We will do our very best to accommodate any special diet requests you may have. Please let us know when you sign up.

Yes however if you choose to bring your own bike, you are entirely responsible for its maintenance and repair and for bringing any spare parts. We cannot guarantee that the contents of the Survival Pack will be suitable for your bike. We will refund the cost of bike hire however you will need to pay for and arrange transportation of your bike. You will also be entirely responsible for any damages caused to your bike. We cannot accept any liability for any loss or damage caused to your bike whilst it is in our care. We cannot guarantee that a replacement bike will be available in the event of a serious breakage / failure.  

Yes, as long as they have a standard 9/16 inch x 20 tpi thread. However, you will be entirely responsible for any issues arising through the use of your pedals. We cannot accept any liability for any loss or damage caused to your pedals whilst in our care. We cannot guarantee that matching replacement  pedals will be available in the event of a serious breakage / failure.  

All trails are mapped, clearly marked and signposted to the nearest village. Mobile phone coverage is extensive. Each participant is issued with a GPS tracking device as well as a paper map. For the Challenge, a safety officer will be riding the same trail. For MTB camps, a guide can be provided.

Your survival pack includes a basic set of tools and puncture repair kit. Should you be unable to repair the bike or if damage is more severe, you should call for assistance.

Our team at Pure MTB are trained first aiders. Your survival pack includes a first aid kit. Should any injuries require medical attention, you will be brought to the nearest hospital. Helicopter rescue is available if the injured person cannot be moved or otherwise transported.

All riders registering for the Pure MTB Challenge or Camp will be required to read and sign a Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement, a copy of which can be found on our website. Upon signing our waiver it will form part of your contract with Pure MTB.

You will need to take out travel and medical insurance covering you for mountain biking activities. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects. Purchase insurance once your trip is confirmed and paid in full. Mountain bikes provided by Pure MTB are insured.

Your deposit is non-refundable and we are unable to offer refunds should you or any other member of your party decide to cancel. On receipt of your final booking confirmation we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover you in case of cancellation.

Payment of the balance of the trip price is due 30 days before the start date. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled.
